It has been a year since we launched the Adele Carr Foundation in association with Bridgewater High School, Appleton.
The funding provided to the school has been supporting the purchase of various sports equipment and lessons for the pupils who are keen to progress further.
Last year, we met with some of the boys the foundation has helped. See link to read their stories: Adele Carr Foundation: 2022
This year, we spoke with Gabby, Lucy and Isabelle who have benefitted from the Adele Carr Foundation.
Gabby, Year 10, and Isabelle, Year 8, are both swimmers. Their new racing swimsuits are specially designed to help the girls glide through the water faster and hopefully win competitions. “We’re up at 4am to practice. It’s hard juggling schoolwork and swimming but we’re determined to one day compete in the Commonwealth Games and be part of Team GB for the Olympics.” -Gabby, aged 14.
Year 10 pupil, Lucy, has benefitted from her new rowing machine. “It’s currently in my living room and gets used for practice twice a week, the rest of the days I’m with a trainer in the gym.” Lucy competed in rowing nationals last March and won. Her future dream is to join Team GB at the Olympics.
The teenagers are currently accepted into development programmes which will hopefully lead them to achieving their dreams.
The idea was born from Head of Physical Education, Mr Mackay, who has been working at Bridgewater High School for almost two decades. “The foundation helps our students compete on the same level as other kids who have an advantage.” Once they have graduated and become school alumni, the former pupils of the program will be contacted for a ‘where are you now’ update.
It is important to Adele Carr that every pupil has the opportunity to learn and achieve in a sport they have a passion for.
